Arsenal were thumped 4-0 at the San Siro by Milan. It was a disappointing defeat. Arsenal’s chances of progressing in the competition are very less now.
Here are some thoughts on the match.
1. Arsenal are not out of the competition yet:
Arsenal lost 4-0 against Milan which was quite unthinkable before the game. Milan bossed and clearly dominated the game. Arsène Wenger admits that statically Arsenal have just a 5% chance in advancing in the competition but realistically Arsenal are out of it. I sort of agree with Monsieur Wenger but we still have a chance. The second leg is in March at the Emirates. Arsenal need to beat Milan 5-0 to advance in the competition, which in fact is really difficult but not impossible.
2. This Milan setback can have a massive effect on rest of the Arsenal’s season:
Many would remember that last season Arsenal were knocked out of three competitions in a week after the 2-1 loss in the Carling Cup final against Birmingham, which was a massive setback. After that, Arsenal were knocked out from the FA Cup by Man Utd, knocked out by Barcelona from the champions league and knocked out from the title race after poor results for the rest of the season. Arsenal managed to finish 4th in the league that year. This year the same might happen, knocked out of the Champions League and the FA Cup. For the CL Arsenal have a very little chance of going into the last 8, Arsenal are out of the Carling cup already, Arsenal have a tough tie against Sunderland in the FA Cup this saturday and they are definitely not in the title race. Arsenal’s season is in grave danger and they would have to show great mental strength to get something out of it.
I rate all the players 4/10 after their poor defensive and offensive display.
