Arsenal emerged victorious in the North London Derby thrashing Spurs 5-2. It was the second consecutive time that the scoreline was 5-2 in Arsenal’s favour. Tottenham yet again went ahead with an early goal through Adebyor but things soon changed when the former Arsenal and ManCity man got sent off after a reckless challenge on Cazorla. After that, it was all Arsenal. First the Gunners scored via Mertesacker then Podolski and then Giroud. It was 3-1 to the Gunners at half time. Arsenal then scored another one through Cazorla but tension grew in the emirates with a late goal from Gareth Bale making the score 4-2. Theo Walcott added a fifth in extra time. ‘Deja Vu.’
Here are the ratings from match.
Szczesny 6- Played his first game after the Southampton one as the Arsenal no. 1 was out due to an injury. The Pole had a good game but would be unhappy after conceding twice.
Sagna 7.5- Handled Bale very well and kept him anonymous most of the times. He was also a major attacking threat down that right hand side, putting in some dangerous crosses.
Mertesacker 6.5- His mistake led to the first goal but he made up for that with a brilliant header at the other end to score his first in an Arsenal shirt. The big German was a bit shaky but improved later on in the match.
Koscielny 7- The Frenchman was strong and solid at the back and kept the likes of Lennon, Bale and Defoe out of the game.
Vermaelen 7- Had a good game down the left side. Dealt with Lennon very well and was a threat himself when got forward.
Arteta 6.5- Wasn’t at his best but linked up with Cazorla and Wilshere and was the hub in the midfield once again.
Wilshere 6.5- Looks better every game and so was the case today with a good performance. The Englishman combined brilliantly with Cazorla and dominated possession.
Cazorla 9- Man of the match performance from the Spaniard. Scored one and assisted one but the former Malaga man ran the midfield and gave Tottenham all sorts of problems.
Walcott 8- Was brilliant today. He also scored one and provided one and troubled Naughton down the right side. The English international had an electrical performance.
Podolski 7.5- The third person in the team today to provide 1 and score 1. He was at his best today when defending as he tracked back time and time again to provide help for Vermaelen.
Giroud 8- Continued his goalscoring form with another goal today, his fourth in three matches. The French international scored another poachers goal and its good to see that Arsenal have started to play like his strengths as the Gunners put in loads of crosses into the box today. Came close to scoring on a couple of more occasions. His next game would be against his former club, Montpellier.
The Gunners now sit sixth in the table and other results also went in favour of them. ManUtd, Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton and of course Spurs all lost as Arsenal closed down the gap on the top of the table.
