Arsenal vs. Borussia Dortmund Preview

Arsenal vs. Borussia Dortmund, Thursday, November 24, 2011

Venue: Emirates Stadium

Watch Live action on Ten Sports (India) from 12:30 am IST, kick off at 1:15 am IST

It is the Champions League Campaign and we face Dortmund at the Emirates in a must win game for both teams. Ideally Arsenal would be looking at winning this match an qualify to the next round on the top of the group. A draw or loss for us would mean that the remaining two matches in the group would be extremely crucial and we might not end up topping the group. We wouldn’t want the same situation as in the last season where we ended up second in the group and we got Barcelona in the second round. We all know what happened then. A win will also help Wenger to rotate his players for the remaining Champions League matches where we have fewer important matches during the same time.

Both teams have a lot in common this season. Both had lost a few of their stars before the season started and got a few new players. On the games front, Arsenal and Dortmund both started the season horribly and later picked up the momentum as the months progressed. With us beating Chelsea in a thrilling encounter and the fantastic win against Norwich made sure our unbeaten run in the last few matches remained intact while Dortmund, last year’s Bundesliga Champions, had an impressive victory over their rivals Bayern Munich, the current league leaders, on Saturday and this would have pumped their confidence on a high. The player to watch out for on their side would be Goetze, our probable January target, and he is in the best form and a reason for the team to come up on winning lines.

Wenger might field the same squad that played against Norwich. The only change would be Diaby coming back to the squad instead of Rosicky. Rosicky was injured during the training but its good to see Diaby back in the team and this might have been the good work done at the new Arsenal Medical Center. Having not played a single minute this season yet, he might not start for the game.

Probable starting line-up (Arsenal): Szczesny, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Santos, Song, Arteta, Ramsey, Walcott, Gervinho,Van Persie

Probable starting line-up (Dortmund): Weidenfeller, Piszczek, Hummels, Santana, Schmelzer, Bender, Kehl, Goetze, Kagawa, Perisic, Lewandowski

Had to go in with the best team possible as this is not going to be a easy outing for Arsenal. We are looking forward for a 2-1 score line but would love to see a clean sheet for Arsenal.
