Norwich vs Arsenal Post Match

With the international break over Arsenal was at Carrow Road,  facing Norwich city, who were looking for a win to continue their unbeaten run. With Carl Jenkinson out with a stress fracture, Wenger had to go in as a make-shift left back, and with all the available players he went in with the best starting eleven.

Arsenal Starting Lineup: Szczesny, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Santos, Song, Ramsey, Arteta, Walcott, Gervinho, van Persie

Norwich City Starting Lineup:Ruddy, Martin, Barnett, Tierney, Naughton, Crofts, Johnson, Hoolahan, Fox, Pilkington, Morison

The match started with Arsenal like always pressing hard to move forward. There were a string of wing bursts going front from Walcott and Gervinho, but the finishing was missing especially from Gervinho. Norwich too had their share of going front whenever they got the limited chance but they didn’t trouble the back two much and the polish keeper, except for the blunder from the German Mertesacker which led to the first goal of the match by Morison for Norwich.

After the goal it might have struck as one of those days for Arsenal where we would miss out on an easy win with a lot of misses on the goal by our forwards. However that was not to be! Arsenal pressed even harder going forward and finally it was the Captain again who netted the equalizer and thereby getting his 30th goal of the calendar year.

The second half started pretty much on the same note with Arsenal pressing hard and missing a few sitters from Gervinhno. The second goal came from RVP with a pass from Song and the captain chipping the ball above the Norwich goalie.

The game ended with the same scoreline 2-1 favoring Arsenal! However, as always, it would have been 4 or 5 goals for Arsenal had they converted their chances. In the end it was not the scoreline that was important but the 3 points we got to go up the table.

On a individual basis except for the sad mistake by the German everyone else had a good outing. Laurent Koscielny was playing for the first time on the right and he was exceptional out on that position as he was not too adventorous unlike our regular RBs. Walcott is seeming to show his importance and he too had an amazing game and his crosses seem to be getting excellent with each game. Vermalen was solid however needs to make sure he doesnt keep going forward quite often.

Santos was neat again as there was nothing much for him and he was at his best going forward and showing off a bit of his skills. Gervinho had a good day going forward but he could have got a couple on his own had he been good with his finishing. The midfield of Song, Arteta and Ramsey was not great except for Song. Arteta had an uneventful game with him missing out on a few of his passes and crosses. Ramsey was quiet but it was good to see him going forward and trying to get at the right place.

Robin Van Persie with his double took his tally to 31 goals for the calender year and there have been only 4 strikers to score 30 or more in a calender year. He is in the best of his goal scoring form and hope to see him get more.

After the game RVP said

“very important …it is very important to have a good run which is what we are doing. Now but it all comes down to hard work everyones is working hard bit lucky here and there ..but its what u earn when u put the effort in “
