Rating the Gunners in their last match of 2012

Arsenal enjoyed a 7-3 victory over Newcastle in their last game of the year. It was wonderful second half performance by the gunners that gave them an emphatic win over the Toons. Newcastle came out with a comparatively young side due to injuries and despite scoring three at the Emirates, they went home thrashed by the gunners. Here are the ratings from the match.

Szczesny 6.5- Made a couple of good saves in the first half. Apart from that he had to pick the ball out of the back of the net three times.

Sagna 7- Had a good offensive and defensive game. His bad tackle led to the first goal.

Koscielny 7.5- Came in the starting XI for Per Mertesacker and did well. Made some crucial clearances and tackles.

Vermaelen 7.5- Ba did cause some problems to the Belgian centre back but he was able to hold him and he did make some crucial tackles.

Gibbs 7- Got an assist but his defensive performance wasn’t as good as his fault led to two Newcastle goals.

Arteta 7.5- Passed the ball nicely and was once again the orchestrator in the midfield.

Wilshere 8- Was at fault for the first goal for Newcastle but his little bursts from midfield were very good. Was very influential and his assist for Podolski was probably the best and showed why Wilshere is so important to Arsenal in the coming years.

Cazorla 8- First half wasn’t as good as the second for the Spaniard. Got one assist and once again proved to be important in midfield.

Chamberlain 7.5- Scored his first goal in the league this season and was good down that right hand side.

Podolski 8- An assist in the first half and a goal in the second. Was involved in the build up to most of Arsenal’s attacks.

Walcott 9.5- Brilliant performance by the Englishman. Got a hat trick and two assists. Now he just needs to sign a contract.

Giroud 9- Had a big impact on the game. Scored twice after coming on and should have got himself a third but this does shows that he wants his starting place back.

Ramsey 6- Passed the ball nicely and did his job as well.

Coquelin n/a – The Frenchman came on very late for Cazorla.

A good win to end the year on a high note.

Happy New year.

  1. I don’t think sagna deserve 7 point he made mistake and that was not first game of his errors. I do not know what has happend to him since his injure or it is because of his contract extension. I really a fonde of him and hope he will get better.
