Arsenal have had a difficult season so far. The Gunners have gone through spells where they’ve been destroying teams and have shown quality – thrashing Tottenham and Reading 5-2, putting six past both Coventry and Southampton, a 7-5 mauling of Reading in the league cup, getting good results away at Anfield, Upton Park, Etihad, The D W, Goodison park and the Britannia. In all these instances Arsenal have been unstoppable and have got good results.
Despite all of the quality in the team, Arsenal have looked vulnerable – losing away to Norwich, being outclassed at Old Trafford, losing 2-1 against Chelsea, losing to Bradford, failing to score against Swansea, Aston Villa, Schalke, Sunderland. In all these matches the Gunners haven’t looked like a team and haven’t looked sharp.
This pretty much sums up their season till now. They’ve been very inconsistent. One week they’ve played like one of the best teams in Europe and the next week they’ve been beaten after a very lacklustre performance.
The new signings have looked good and have gelled with the team well. Santi Cazorla has been brilliant till now. The Spaniard has got seven goals in the league so far, Arsenal’s top scorer in the league, and has got a handful of assists. Lukas Podolski has got himself on the scoresheet on many occasions as well and has shown his class. Finally, Olivier Giroud has shown his quality as well. He has got seven goals so far in all competitions but his start in an Arsenal shirt wasn’t that great. He still has a lot to show and prove and it will come.
At the moment, the Gunners sit fourth in the Premier League and they are still in both the Champions League and The FA Cup but are out of the Capital One Cup. Their chance of winning any silverware is very slim but you can’t rule it out.
For the coming half of the season, the Gunners now need to be consistent and find some form. If they are able to do so, they will be able to finish in the top four for another season and with the help of some luck they might be able to win something this year.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
