Arsenal face their first major test of the season in the form of ManCity. The Gunners travel to the Etihad which would be their first match against a top four side this season. The English champions sit fourth, just behind Arsenal but with the same points. The Citizens recently lost a five goal thriller against the Spanish champions Real Madrid whereas Arsenal held Montpellier for a 2-1 victory in the south of France.
This mouthwatering tie between England’s top teams would be a one to watch. The rivalry between Arsenal and ManCity has grown in the past few years and can be an unpredictable match. In the past four meetings in the Premier League, the Gunners have only lost one, that to a 1-0 defeat last season at the Etihad. Otherwise Arsenal have won two – 1-0 win at the Emirates last season and a 3-0 triumph at the Etihad two seasons ago.
Possible starting XI
Mannone will continue to feature in goal with number 1 choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny injured. The young Italian has kept two clean sheets out of three.
The back four would remain unchanged from last weekend with Gibbs and Jenkinson continuing their roles as left back and right back respectively. Vermaelen and Mertesacker would continue to build their excellent partnership as centre backs.
In midfield, Diaby and Arteta will play their usual holding midfielder roles with Santi Cazorla playing behind the striker in his favourite roaming role. The two Spaniards have built a good partnership and have been instrumental and creative in the midfield.
The three strikers will be unchanged as well. Giroud would continue in search of his first goal as the centre forward with Podolski on the left and Gervinho on the right. Gervinho and Podolski are the men in form, scoring three in their last two and three matches respectively.
It is going to be a very very tough match but a victory would make a statement and make Arsenal title contenders for the season.
