Why Arsenal are title contenders for 12/13 season

Arsenal’s EPL campaign would kick of in about two weeks against Sunderland. Arsenal as always would be looking for a good start and a Champions League spot at the end of the season. Arsenal have always been title contenders every season but last season the case was a bit different. Arsenal started off with a draw and two losses in the starting three games – a goalless draw against Newcastle, 2-0 loss against Liverpool and a humiliating 8-2 defeat at Old Trafford. It was the worst possible start for Arsenal. The Gunners struggled the whole season but a good run in the end of the campaign helped them secure the third spot but 17 points behind the League champions ManCity.

This season would be surely different as Arsenal play Sunderland at home, Stoke away and then Liverpool. It will always be difficult against those three but Arsenal should be able to get a minimum of 6 points. Regardless of what Arsenal did last season, they would definitely be serious title contenders this season. Here are three reasons why:

1. Jack Wilshere will return from injury: Wilshere will surely be back in the first XI by October as Arsène Wenger has said or the next transfer window. Wilshere as everyone knows is a brilliant talent and has the quality to become a future star. He would provide the Cesc Fabregas kind of the play which Arsenal have missed sorely in the last season. The play would revolve around Wilshere and he would get a handful of assists the whole campaign. Him being back would help Arsenal challenge for the Premier League crown.

2. The new additions: Arsène Wenger has added Podolski and Giroud as potential replacements for Robin Van Persie. Both strikers are good, both used the play in top leagues in the world, both are experienced and both are known for their goal getting. Giroud last season was the top scorer in League 1 with 21 goals and helped Montpellier to win the title. On the other hand, Podolski scored 18 goals for FC Cologne. Both of them scored loads and the good thing was that both of them had a good amount of assists. They would certainly help the fans forget about Van Persie and will show that Arsenal can challenge for the title.

3. The new youngsters: With Alex Oxlade Chamberlain already winning many fans’ hearts last season there will be new youngsters featuring for the gunners in the form of Miyachi, Eisfield and Aneke. All three have shown tremendous quality and would certainly come into the first team. There would be more players entering the first team and would add depth to the squad and show that Arsenal are capable enough to be champions.

These three things would play a massive role in Arsenal’s upcoming season and they prove that the Gunners are serious title contenders.
