Arsenal travel to The Hawthorns on the final day of the season for a must win game. West Brom don’t have anything to play as they are well safe from the relegation zone but Arsenal have a massive game for the race to finish in the top four. The Gunners need three points and they would qualify for the Champions league but any points dropped would be a trouble for Arsenal. Newcastle are just two points behind Arsenal and noisy neighbours Tottenham are just a point behind the Gooners.
Last season in the same fixture Arsenal came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2. It was a game that Arsenal dominated but was unable to defend properly. West Brom opened the scoring with a free header on 3 minutes. They doubled their lead just before the hour mark, when Peter Odemwingie found the back of the net after a poor decision by Almunia to come out of his goal. Arsenal responded back within 15 minutes after a super strike from Arshavin. Van Persie grabbed an equaliser with ten minutes to go but Arsenal couldn’t find a third to win the match. It finished 2-2.
Arsenal can easily drop to fifth, finish fourth or stay at third. It is like a cup final to win the games. Arsenal have been struggling in the past few weeks for form after they have just managed a win in five matches. Van Persie has find his goal scoring boots once again after scoring three goals in the last two matches. Walcott might be available for the last game after he picked a hamstring injury in the stalemate against Chelsea.
Szczesny would be in goal as usual. Despite a poor performance against Norwich the young Pole has been reliable between the sticks for Arsenal in this season. I doubt Wenger would play Fabianski until an injury problem.
The back four would have one change. Sagna’s injury would mean a start for young Carl Jenkinson with Koscielny, Vermaelen and Gibbs along the back line.
In Midfield, I think Arsène Wenger would start young Oxlade-Chamberlain alongside Song and Rosicky. The 18 year old has been impressive this season.
In the Arsenal attack, Gervinho would probably drop to bench allowing Walcott to play on the right hand side with Van Persie as the main striker and Yossi Banayoun on the left flank. This would probably be Benayoun’s last match in an Arsenal shirt this season as his season long loan would come to an end, and he would move back to West London.
Arsenal should be able to get the three points against West Brom. It is surely gonna be an entertaining match and we would look forward to see lots of goals. Van Persie would look to break the PL record for most goals in a season as he needs just two more to break C.Ronaldo’s and A.Shearer’s record of 31 goals. He is the favourite to win the golden boot with Wayne Rooney on 26 and the Dutchman on 30.
