Arsenal outclassed Reading in a convincing 5-2 win to move up to fifth in the table. The Gunners looked sharp from the first minute till the last as they completely dismantled Reading who sit bottom of the table. This game was all about a brilliant collective Arsenal performance. The Gunners absolutely ran their socks off on the night and moved on from the disappointing loss to Bradford City which knocked them out of the Capital One Cup. This is the Gunners second consecutive win in as many games in the premier league and surely they would look to build upon it to shorten the gap between them and first place after a poor start to the season. Here are the ratings from their 5-2 thrashing of the former Championship side.
Szczesny 7- Didn’t have much to do the whole match. Was confident and gave the defenders confidence when coming out to punch away or catch the crosses. Wasn’t responsible for either goal.
Sagna 7- Solid performance from the Frenchman. Supported Chamberlain in attack well.
Mertesacker 6- Passing was good but could have done better in both goals.
Vermaelen 6.5- Same as the big German, good passing but part fault for the goals. Made a couple of crucial tackles.
Gibbs 7.5- Was excellent all night. Got two assists and defended well. His misplaced pass cost Arsenal a goal.
Arteta 8- Spread the ball nicely as his passing was just amazing and crisp. Switched play nicely. Ran the midfield once again.
Wilshere 8- The young English international was up there again with another quality performance.
Cazorla 9.5- Man Of the Match. Three goals and 1 assist. Quite self explanatory. The Spaniard was just all over Reading and completely destroyed them with his skill and intelligence. The third Spaniard to get a Hat trick in the Premier League after Torres and Jordi Gomez. Top Class stuff from him.
Chamberlain 7.5- A good performance from him. Was always running at the full back and caused many problems.
Podolski 9- Probably his best performance in Arsenal red and white as the German got himself two assists and on the scoresheet. His link up play was excellent and the man with 100 caps for Germany just terrorised the Reading defence.
Walcott 8- Got his chance to play up front and was always looking to spin in behind. Good finish from him for his goal.
The Gunners were the better side from the start and it showed. Arsenal got three points which they needed very badly and sit just two points behind joint third place. Not in a crisis anymore?
