Arsenal won their second Champions League fixture against Olympiakos to go top of their group with six points. The gunners had a tough game but came out deserved 3-1 winners against the Greek Champions. The first goal came from Gervinho who fired home his 5th goal in 5 matches. The second was from new boy Lukas Podolski who hit a low and powerful strike which went through the keepers legs. The last goal was a quality one by Aaron Ramsey after Giroud flicked on Mannone’s ball to him and sent him through to score a lovely chip goal over the keeper which added gloss to the victory.
Here are the player ratings from the match:
Mannone 6.5- Couldn’t really do much about the goal. Was solid otherwise.
Jenkinson 7.5- He keeps improving game after game. Another wonderful performance by him.
Koscielny 6.5- An average performance by him. Picked on a yellow card after a nasty tackle and was lucky not to sent off. Was strong defensively in the rest of the match.
Vermaelen 6- Wasn’t a good performance from the Arsenal skipper on Wednesday night. Was sloppy with the ball. He even had a communication problem with Mannone earlier in the match. There was a change after the first half. In the later stages he surged forward when he got a chance and made good runs and even nearly scored.
Gibbs 7.5- He has been sensational as well since the start of the season. Another great performance by the Englishman.
Coquelin 6.5- Wasn’t involved much in the game but did have some influence on the match.
Arteta 6.5- Did quite well and kept the midfield running.
Cazorla 7- Another brilliant performance by the Spaniard as he was all over the place (in a good way). He showed off his skills and brilliant passing skills. Unlocked the Olympiakos defence brilliantly. Had some defensive duties to do as well.
Chamberlain 6.5- Played good down the right hand side.
Podolski 6.5- Wasn’t involved that in the match but got the goal and changed the face of the game. That is what world class players are good at.
Gervinho 7- Was amazing and ran rings round the Olympiakos defence. He is on fire and scored his 5th goal in five games.
It was a good result after a disappointing loss against Chelsea. Next match away to West Ham.
